Re: Mrs. Jasmine Thompson, aged 76
Mrs. Thompson, who has ben recovering from right total shoulder replacement surgery requires regular supervision and appropriate management following her discharge home today.
Mrs. Thompson underwent right total shoulder replacement surgery due to chronic right sholder osteoarthritis. Post -operatively was managed with Voltorin 50 mg daily. Pandemic forte( codein 30 along with paracetmol 500 mg 2 tablets every 6 hours when needed along with clexane subcutaneous for 4 days as prophylatic dose for deep vein thrombosis.
On the subsequent day visits, Mrs. Thompson, showed excellent improvement in his health condition. Post-operative right shoulder x- ray which was taken to confirmation of operation, blood reports, neurological findings and all the vitals signs were unremarkable. In order to prevent skin infection wound and drain site care would be highly recommended. Pain was managed with oral analgesia. Cold compress with shoulder brace 4 hours per day was suggested.
Physiotherapy was initiated to ensure activities of daily living. However, reluctant to exercise regime was reported. Consequently follow - up appointment at outpatient physiotherapy for fortnight and hydrotherapy for 1 week were scheduled . Arm sling to be remain for further 4 weeks, during this periods, lifting should be strictly avoided. Currently ready to discharged home with daughter who will accompany for further one month staples to be removed at Orthopaedic Joint Replacement outpatient department after 10 days.
