I am writing to refer Alicia Nesbitt, who was born on 22/04/2016 with opioid dependence and low birth weight. She requires your support after being discharge today.
Alicia’s mother, Gemma has been heroin dependent for two years and recently worked as a sex worker. Both mother and baby completed heroin withdrawal following Alicia’s birth without complications. The Drug and alcohol team involved in managing to Gemma’s addiction drug. Gemma is not a relationship with Alicia’s father due to domestic violence and social services are involved and have approved Alicia to living with Gemma’s grandmother home after being discharged.
At birth, Alicia weight was 2.0 kg and now she is 2.3 kg. She has been bottle feeding erratically and her appetite was decreased. Moreover, Gemma often to needs promoting to care for Alicia and the bond between mother and baby seems to be poor.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could daily visits until Alicia’s weight and feeding problem have stabilized. Please ensure that the Gamma’s grandmother home is a safe environment for the Alicia and educate to Gamma and grandmother on infant care. Kindly it is important to monitor Gamma psychological state and liaise with social worker and drug and alcohol to provide the risk of heroin use.
