Dear Doctor,


Re: Ms Patricia Styles, aged 62


I am referring Ms Styles, in to your facility who requires urgent assesment and evaluation for pericarditis.


On 30 August 2019, Ms Styles reported chest pain shortness of breath and fatigue. In addition, she has a low-grade fever with tachycardia and tachypnea, along with low blood pressure. Her assesment revealed that, she is unwell and underwent certain investigations elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, as well as c-reactive protein and white cell count. Throat swab confirmend viral influenza type-B, and observed pericarditis in echocardiogram.


Ms Styles, was managed with intravenous fluids like saline and ibuprofen 600mg, she discharged on 25 August 2019, and arranged a nurse for home visit. She is a retired teacher and has a history of hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression, for which she is on medications like quinapril, 40 mg, twice daily metformin, 500mg, twice daily and glielazide 300mg daily.


Based on the above circumstances, it would be appreciated if you could provide emergency management and evaluation for pericarditis as you feel appropriate.
